IDRM researchers commended in scientific image competition

IDRM image competition

Two IDRM researchers tied for 2nd place at the image competition organised by the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics at the University of Oxford.  

DPhil Student Judy Sayers of the Riley Group and Dr David Grainger of the Stone Group jointly won the 2nd prize in the competition. Their pictures will be framed and displayed in the Sherrington building.  

Two more images by IDRM researchers, one by Dr Matthew Stower of the Srinivas Group and another one by Dr David Grainger, were selected in the commended category to be displayed alongside the winning entries. 

JOINT SECOND PRIZE - DR DAVID GRAINGER 

Dr David Grainger won joint second place in the competition with his entry titled “Rainbow Vasculature”.

JOINT SECOND PRIZE: JUDY SAYERS 

DPhil student Judy Sayers’ winning entry was named “3D-rendering of a post-natal mouse heart”. 

The organ has been made transparent through tissue clearing to reveal both the coronary arteries and the His/Purkinje system, the heart's dedicated electrical network, which controls the synchrony of cardiac contraction.

COMMENDED - DR MATTHEW STOWER 

Dr Matthew Stower’s commended picture was titled “Whirling Cells”. 

Tissue motion tracking of epithelial cells in a mouse embryo using timelapse light-sheet microscopy and polar cartographical mapping – track colours representing the direction of cell movement.

COMMENDED - DR DAVID GRAINGER 

In addition to his second-prize image, Dr David Grainger has an additional commended image with the title “Peering into the microscopic intricacies of ocular creation.”
