IDRM researchers host week-long teacher residence

Researchers from the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine and the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics at the University of Oxford, took part in a teacher residential initiative between the 19th and 22nd of June.
Five teachers from schools around the UK joined researchers from the Stone, Carlyle, Mommersteeg, Srinivas, and Lakhal-Littleton groups, based in the IDRM, Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, and Sherrington Building.
The project was run in collaboration with Jesus College and Trinity College and comprised a one-week residential aiming to increase teacher awareness and understanding of how and why research is conducted at a major research institution.
Three teachers, Claire Bradford, Gladys Kezia Jayaraman Nair, and Lindsay McDowell, joined researchers at the IDRM in a series of activities, including laboratory-based project work.
Tomoko Watanabe, a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Srinivas group, said:
"I really enjoyed working with Lindsay, Clare and Gladys. They were enthusiastic and gave us many insights into how techniques and biological phenomena we study are taught to their students."
At the end of the week, the teachers were able to present a review of their projects and speak to Prof Nicola Smart and Prof Shankar Srinivas, who work within IDRM's Cardiology theme.
