Alexander Sampson, 'Best Presenter' winner, explains his research to a cross-disciplinary audience

In November the IDRM hosted its second ‘Get to Know Each Other’ (GTKEO) event of 2024, a valuable opportunity for cross-disciplinary learning between the Institute’s core themes (neuroscience, cardiovascular science, and immunology) as well as our hosted partner research groups.

This time round Research Assistants and Postdoctoral Researchers were invited to share an overview of their research projects through five-minute focussed presentations and a poster session, following a networking lunch. The presenters showcased an exciting array of research being carried out across the neurology and cardiovascular themes, the Oxford Vaccine Group (OVG) and Translational Research Immunology Group (TRIG), sparking discussions among attendees over shared research interests and challenges.

Attendees were invited to vote for the most engaging presentation and poster at the end of the afternoon. Dave Grainger from the cardiovascular theme’s Stone Group took home the "Best Poster" prize for his research on lymphatic development. Alex Sampson from OVG’s Lambe Group won the "Best Presentation" award after delivering an engaging talk that used jam-filled and sprinkle doughnut imagery to explain his work on developing the next generation of viral vector vaccines.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the day. We look forward to hosting the next GTKEO event in 2025, where we will continue to celebrate the incredible research happening within the IDRM.
