Ellena is a DPhil student in Cardiovascular Science at the University of Oxford, funded by the British Heart Foundation. Her research combines stem cell biology with bioengineering technologies to develop cardiac neural circuit organoid platforms for disease modelling and drug discovery.

Prior to starting her DPhil, Ellena completed an MSc in Applied Cancer Science at the University of Oxford, where her thesis focused on developing stem cell models of glioblastoma. She previously obtained a BSc (Hons) in Medical & Health Sciences at University College Cork, with her undergraduate thesis investigating potential cardioprotective agents against chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity.
