Dr. Marlen Lauffer is a physician-scientist working in the emerging field of interventional genomics. She is currently establishing an independent research programme at the IDRM, where her work focuses on enabling individualised genetic therapies for patients with rare genetic diseases.

Her research aims to standardise the identification of patients who may benefit from emerging therapeutic approaches such as antisense oligonucleotides, gene editing, or gene replacement by developing international consensus frameworks and computational pipelines that enable rapid assessment.

Dr. Lauffer is involved in national and international efforts to advance the field of individualised therapies and leads initiatives within the globally active N=1 Collaborative. She has a background in medicine, biochemistry, and human molecular genetics and has held research positions in Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Her work combines genomic analysis, clinical translation, and community collaboration to accelerate pathways from genetic diagnosis to genetic therapy.

Note: Marlen Lauffer is an independent fellow within the IDRM's Neurology Theme. Professor Stephan Sanders acts as her mentor within the Institute.
