Kirolous Hanna
DPhil Student
Following a degree in Medicine from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology, I joined the University of Oxford in 2019 to study for an MSc in Integrated Immunology. During this course, I became interested in the association between abnormalities in thymic T-cell development and the clinical manifestations of autoimmune diseases. In particular, I was intrigued by the high propensity of thymoma patients to develop myasthenia gravis, resulting in disorder at their neuromuscular junction that impacts their motor function. Accordingly, I studied thymus histology for my research project and progressed this interest further through a DPhil in Clinical Neurosciences starting from 2020.
My DPhil project involves combined computational and wet lab work to establish and apply multiplexed imaging for spatial omics and advanced image analysis. I am currently using CODEX imaging to facilitate an in-depth characterisation of microenvironmental features correlated with abnormal human T-cell development and occurrence of myasthenia gravis.
