I have a degree in Natural Sciences (Zoology) from Cambridge that introduced me to the importance of developmental biology; a PhD from Sheffield where I investigated the role of the extracellular matrix in heart development; and prior to moving to Oxford, my post-doctoral work in Newcastle focussed on understanding the development and disease of the arterial valves.
I am now a BHF Intermediate Basic Science Research Fellow, where my current work aims to understand the genetic basis for structural birth defects including Bicuspid Aortic Valve and Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
Alongside this, I am generally interested in the development of the heart, establishing new tools and methods to enable us to understand the developmental basis for the most common birth defects.
