Dr. Shankar Srinivas featured on the Stem Cell Podcast

Dr Shankar Srinivas Stem Cell podcast

Dr Shankar Srinivas was featured in the latest episode of the Stem Cell Podcast, titled "Embryo Morphogenesis". The Stem Cell Podcast cultures knowledge in stem cell research by talking to the brightest minds in the field.

In the podcast episode, the hosts, Dr Daylon James and Dr Arun Sharma, talk to Dr Srinivas about how tissues respond to forces during early development, characterising cardiac progenitors.

When asked to expand upon the overarching themes of his research, Dr Srinivas said:

It is the fundamental question of what shapes our body. How through this almost magical process we go from an egg, which doesn't have any features, and certainly not the features of the foetus [...] We as scientists know it is not magic, that it is scientifically tractable.

Dr. Shankar Srinivas is a Professor of Developmental Biology based in the Institute for Developmental & Regenerative Medicine at the University of Oxford. He is also a Zeitlyn Fellow and Tutor in Medicine at Jesus College.

Using mouse and human embryos as model systems, the Srinivas group looks at the control of patterning and morphogenesis during the establishment of the anterior-posterior axis, gastrulation, and early cardiogenesis.

The Srinivas research group has also been involved in multiple public engagement projects, such as Shaping Destiny: Experiments in Embodiment and activities related to the Human Developmental Biology Initiative (HDBI).
